What DSIP is DSIP is a nine-residue peptide first recovered from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits in slow-wave sleep. Despite half a century of study its receptor has not been definitively identified, which makes it an unusual and genuinely open subject rather than a settled one. Mechanism No single receptor has been established. Published work reports interactions with opioid and GABAergic systems, effects on corticotropin release, and modulation of delta-wave activity in EEG recordings, without a unifying mechanism. Where it appears in research Sleep architecture and EEG studies Neuroendocrine stress-axis research Peptide transport across the blood-brain barrier Receptor identification work History Isolated in 1977 by Guido Schoenenberger and Marcel Monnier in Basel, who perfused blood from sleeping rabbits into recipients and tracked the fraction that induced delta activity. The isolation method is as notable as the peptide.
